Community invited to BSA Troop 130 open house

Troop 130 to host open house

The scouts of BSA Troop 130 (Huntington) invite families with young men ages 11 to 17 who are interested in Boy Scouts to attend an open house on Monday, January 27 at 6:30-8:00 PM at Life Church in Huntington. Life Church is located at 900 E. State Street.

The open house will give boys the opportunity to talk to scouts and scout leaders about our outdoor activities program, as well as our rank advancement and merit badge programs. Parents can direct questions about scouting to Troop 130 parents and leaders. Refreshments will be served.

In the last three decades, Troop 130 has helped to shape young men into community leaders through a substantial outdoor program and an active schedule of rank advancement activities and community service projects. Scouts can earn merit badges in 140 programs including First Aid, Wilderness Survival, Personal Fitness, Kayaking, Rifle, and Shotgun. Over fifty Troop 130 scouts have attained the rank of Eagle Scout, typically with Eagle projects that included hundreds of hours of community service.

Recent adventure trips include cycling on Mackinac Island in Michigan, backpacking in Black Elk Wilderness behind Mt. Rushmore, and canoeing the Tippecanoe River in Indiana. Troop 130 participates in district and council Camporees in Ft. Wayne’s Anthony Wayne Area Council, summer camping programs in Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan, and council-wide Order of the Arrow activities. Troop fundraisers such as the Lost Canal & Haunted Trail help scouts to pay for travel expenses, registration fees, and necessary outdoor equipment.

Anyone with questions about becoming involved in scouting may e-mail Scoutmaster Jeff Follis at jeff.follis@promachbuilt.com. Troop 130 is chartered by Life Church in Huntington, and from October to May, the troop meets at 6:30 PM on Mondays at the church. Summer meetings take place at the Miller Pond on Broadway Avenue.
