Food for Flights – a fundraiser for Honor Flight Northeast Indiana
Sponsored by Norwell Middle School National Junior Honor Society
Program coordinator, Jody Gates
On November 12, the first of an annual fundraiser was held at the 4-H Expo Hall in Bluffton, Indiana. The program raised over $2500 for Honor Flight Northeast Indiana. Food donations from community businesses fed the 100+ people who attended the program. They enjoyed Chicken Fried Rice from Umi (Fort Wayne), Cheese, Sausage, Pepperoni and Supreme Pizzas from Pizza Hut, Chicken Wings from Wings, Etc., The Pickle made their signature Bacon Cheeseburger and Chicken Club potatoes, and Lighted Gardens provided an amazing dessert – Apple Cream/Caramel pies.
Local businesses donated items for a silent auction – Yergy’s State Road BBQ, Timber Ridge Golf Club, Simply Seeking Photography, Bluffton Family Eye Care, Prepper 4 Inc., Serenity Acres, Daniel’s Jewelers, A Harvest of Health, as well as anonymous and personal donations.
Norwell, Bluffton and Southern Wells Concert Bands joined forces to play patriotic pieces for our audience of veterans and civilians, young and old. With only ONE combined practice, Band directors, Cory Kelley (Norwell), Jim Bueter (Bluffton), and Mike Haigh (Southern Wells) took turns directing the mixed group of high school band members. As the band played a medley of military branch song, military members stood when their song was played. Army Specialist Cory Kelley respectfully saluted as the military members stood.
