Bluffton student-athlete signs with Foresters
Bluffton High School Senior Madyson Sonnigsen, of Uniondale, signed with Huntington University on Tuesday, December 3, to continue her academic and athletic careers. She will be playing softball at HU for head coach Tim Averill and she plans to major in accounting. Other college coaches will be pitching coach Molly Sterrett and assistant coach Miranda Mokma.
Madyson is the daughter of Tyler and Heather Sonnigsen. She has two brothers, Kedrik and Elijah Sonnigsen. She not only credits her brothers for her inspiration to play softball, but her father is also the head coach of her high school softball team. Her high school assistant coaches are Lauren Brinneman, Luke Petty, Karley Nash and Jeff Olson.
Madyson has played softball for eight years and also plays basketball. Aside from sports, Madyson enjoys reading, singing and drawing. She also participates in Campus Life and youth group and enjoys math classes.
Madyson’s advice to her underclassmen teammates is, “never let the pressure and mental aspect of softball overtake the fun, memories and relationships. It will be over before you even know.”
Madyson hopes that she can “be a light to my team through Christ” and also hopes she can “make amazing relationships all while playing my favorite sport,” when she gets to college. She sees herself “graduating from college with lifelong relationships and memories” in five years.
