Norwell boys basketball teams sweep Tigers

Christmas break didn’t stop Wells County from getting together at Norwell High School’s “Castle” on Saturday, December 28th, for a basketball showdown between the Norwell Knights and Bluffton Tigers. The results for the freshman, junior varsity and varsity games were all in Norwell’s favor, with the freshman team narrowly earning a 33-28 game, the junior varsity earning nearly double the points Bluffton did for a 54-28 win and the varsity team earning a 41-33 win.
The Norwell Knights, coached by Michael McBride, went into the game with a 5-2 record on the year. The two teams played fairly evenly through the first quarter, with Norwell finally squeaking past Bluffton 12-8 with two minutes left to go in the quarter. By the end of the half, Bluffton gained 8 more points for a score of 16 while Norwell gained 10 more for 22.
Quarter three was the most evenly matched quarter for the teams, with Bluffton earning 11 and Norwell earning 10. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they were never able to get past Norwell’s slight point advantage. With just 6 points added for Bluffton in the final quarter compared to Norwell’s 9, the win went to the hosts.
The junior varsity game was a far different story. Norwell stood out from the start, with the first quarter ending 16-6 and jumped to 29-16 by the end of the first half. Although both teams were relentless while going after the ball, Norwell was able to control the narrative to earn 25 more points in the second half for their total 54 points, compared to Bluffton earning just 12 points in the second half.

Max White with 13 points.
Abram Gerhett with 6 points.
Gibson Grieser with 6 points.
Next up for Norwell is a tournament game day hosted at Wawasee High School on Friday, January 3. Next up for Bluffton is a game against Lakewood Park on Saturday, January 4.
