The Huntington North Lady Vikings traveled to Warsaw on Saturday to take part in the annual Tiger Invitational Basketball Tourney.
Both the varsity and junior varsity squads faced off against Perry Meridian Lady Falcons in the day’s opening round games.
The JV got things rolling on a high note, securing a 33 to 18 victory behind 13 points from Addison Dennis.
The varsity tilt saw the Lady Vikings combine pinpoint shooting from guards Reece Colclesser and Taylor Double with yet another episode of air tight team defense.
The combo would prove to deadly for Perry Meridian to survive and Huntington North jumped into the title game with a 49-28 victory.
The Lady Vikings JV headed into their championship match looking to take out the host Warsaw Lady Tigers.
After falling behind at the half time break, Huntington North stormed back.
Highlighted by 6 of 6 fourth quarter free throw shooting from Grace Gross, the spunky Lady Vikings pieced together a double-digit rally and took home the championship hardware via a 33-30 win.
Determined not to be outdone, the varsity Lady Vikes took aim at a title game sweep, as they squared off against the Lady Trojans from Chesterton.
Chesterton hung tough over the ‘games first sixteen minutes and were with eight points, 23-15, of the Lady Vikings at intermission.
An already stingy Huntington North defense would become downright Scrooge like in the game’s second half, limiting Chesterton to just twelve points over the final sixteen minutes, leaving the court with a 43-27 victory.
On top of walking away with the tourney title, the Lady Vikings continue to cement their reputation as one of the top defensive teams in the entire state.
Entering today’s games Huntington North was allowing a meager 30.1 points per game, ranking them number one in Class 4A and 5th overall statewide.
Today’s games mark the eighth and ninth time the Lady Vikings have held an opponent under thirty points.
Congratulations to both Huntington North teams, as well as to Colclesser and Double who were both named to the four player all tourney team, with Double grabbing Tourney MVP.
Huntington North moves to 12-4 on the year. Their next game is January 10th at East Noble.
