Hat Tip Katelynn Farley

Norwell High School senior Mekynzi Beck, an Ossian native, signed to continue her athletic and academic careers with Manchester University. Beck will be a multi-sport athlete, playing volleyball and basketball for the University. She plans to major in Physical Therapy.

Her Norwell coaches are Kayla Hunter for volleyball and Eric Thornton for basketball. Her coaches at Manchester will be Ivan Matos and Tyler Ferguson for volleyball and Josh Dzurick and Scott Jennings for basketball.

Mekynzi is the daughter of Shari Beck and Will Lane. She has two siblings, Ethon and Kailie Beck. She has participated in basketball from a very young age, starting in Upward Basketball. She has played volleyball since seventh grade. She also participates in Unified Track.

Mekynzi points to her older brother as her inspiration for playing basketball, stating that it was watching him play when she was little that made her want to start playing herself. She credits her friends for her desire to play volleyball.

To her underclassmen teammates, Mekynzi says, “Don’t take it for granted. It flies by as soon as you get to Junior/Senior year.”

Mekynzi hopes to be in “a great environment” and to meet new people when she goes to college. In five years, she hopes to be toward the end of college and possibly starting her career with a degree.
