Receives Indiana 1st Avenger Fire Truck
Hat Tip Robert Gonser President/Chaplain Markle Fire Dept
This new truck, “Rescue 901”, will replace two trucks we currently have which includes rescue 908 and engine 901. With this one truck we are able to carry all of our rescue tools along with being able to use this truck to pump water. This allows us to be able to respond to several
incidents with just this one truck where in the past it would have taken two trucks. Having this capability allows us to have greater access to whatever equipment or tools we might need in a more timely fashion. That allows us to do our job more efficiently while saving minutes when those minutes count the most for someone in need.
Chief Jon Gray
We are allowed to have a maximum of 30 firefighters per our Articles. Currently we have a membership of 24 firefighters. Our ranks are made up of many that are combination of first responders and firefighters. We are always looking for new volunteers to help fill our department.
The Markle Volunteer Fire Department is funded by the Town of Markle, and Rock Creek and Union Townships in both Huntington and Wells County.

When we put a new fire apparatus into service there is typically a watering down, wiping down or dedication. In our current situation we dedicated the truck as this is a setting a part of this apparatus for special use. This reference of setting apart refers back to biblical times when buildings, and utensils were dedicated or set apart meaning they had a greater purpose.
This is Indiana’s first Avenger, this is custom made for the Markle fire department. It’s a European and American design combined. The new machine is two trucks in one having the capacity to hold and function for both rescue and fire. With the new truck come several features such as a calf air system that uses less water than a traditional fire truck and a large cabin area designed to hold 6 firefighters.
Thank you to ALL Volunteer Firemen! Many people don't realize the amount of time and dedication it takes!
