The class 4A 6th ranked Homestead Spartans visited the Castle, Friday night, looking to put a damper on Norwell's senior night festivities.
From the opening tip, the Knights let it be known they had no plans to go out quietly.
Norwell jumped on the Spartans early and often, behind 3 pointers from Garrison Brege, Levi Leidig and Conner Torson building a quick 11-3 lead. Homestead would right the ship, however, hitting a trio of three pointers, as well, as the first quarter closed with the teams deadlocked at 13 each.
Homestead would drop three more trifectas in the second quarter, but the host Knights hung tough and ended the first half down just 2 points, 26 to 24.
Continuing the game's 3 pointer theme, the Spartans looked to 3 ball the Knights into submission as the second half began, draining 5 shots from behind the arc, including three from Luke Goode.
Led by Will Geiger's seven third quarter points, the Knights were able to match Homestead's 19 point outburst and pushed the game to its final stanza trailing by 2 points, 45-43.
Homestead would nail the final 2 of their 13 three pointers (the teams combined for 20) over the game's 8 minutes and would go 5 out of 6 from the free throw line, in the waning minutes, to finally stave off Norwell's upset bid.
Final score Homestead 62 Norwell 57
Norwell was led by Ledig's 16 points. Geiger followed him 15.
Goode's 19 paced the scoring for Homestead.
Norwell finishes the regular season with a 13-9 record. The Knights open sectional play on Tuesday versus Mississinewa
