Norwell High School senior Kyler Morris, of Ossian, signed to continue his athletic career with University of Saint Francis on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. He will be playing soccer for coach Mamba Chisoni and plans to major in Biology Pre-Med.
Kyler is the son of Andrea and Gavin Morris. He has a brother, Mason, and two sisters, Tenlee and Haven. Kyler has been playing soccer for about 12 years, starting in the Northern Wells soccer league behind Ossian Elementary school and working his way through middle school and high school teams. In the winter time, Kyler participates in futsal, an indoor version of the game. He was inspired to play soccer thanks to professional players like Lionel Messi, who he looked up to as a young boy.
“I believe that inspiration is what has gotten me this far,” Kyler said.
Aside from soccer, Kyler also runs varsity track for Norwell and played basketball as a freshman. He is a part of the National Honors Society and his favorite class has been AP Calculus with Mr. Newton.
Keeping busy, Kyler works in three different places outside of school. He is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Ossian Healthcare and Rehabilitation, and also interned at Rethceif Packaging for about 6 months. From time to time, he also does landscaping jobs thanks to a business he and a friend started this past summer.
One of Kyler’s favorite memories from his time on the team was “winning the sectional game against Heritage this year in penalties to send us to the Sectional Championship.”
Jude Bellingham is another professional soccer player that Kyler looks up to, “due to his leadership and determination within every game he plays.”
To his younger teammates, Kyler says, “Love the game, and never be content with where you’re at.”
Kyler plans to enroll in and graduate from medical school after college and become a Doctor in Radiology.
Hudson Gerbers, a Norwell High School senior from Bluffton, signed to continue his athletic career by playing soccer at University of Saint Francis on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. He plans to major in Pre-Med Biology. He has played soccer for nearly 13 years.
Hudson is the son of Matthew and Courtney Gerbers. He has two siblings, Lucy and Zoe Gerbers. His high school coach during his freshman and sophomore years was James Feldheiser and his coach for junior and senior years was Kiel Nunn. His coach at Saint Francis will be Mamba Chisoni.
“My parents encouraged me to start playing when I was young and I have loved it ever since,” Hudson said. As far as professional players go, Hudson says he looks up to Cole Palmer.
Hudson participates in Club Soccer at Fort Wayne United and interns through the Chamber of Commerce. He is the President of Student Council and a member of both the National Honors Society and the Riley Dance Marathon. His favorite high school class was Chemistry with Mr. Weinert. Aside from soccer and school, Hudson also works at Ginger Fresh Market. He has worked there since August 2023.
Hudson’s message to his younger teammates is simple. “Don’t give up, no matter how hard it may seem. Always give 100%.” He says his favorite memory from his time playing for Norwell is the team’s sectional run this past year.
Hudson hopes to be in medical school studying to become a doctor in five years and hopes he can be successful in both academics and athletics.
